For the second year in a row, my students have celebrated Computer Science Education Week by participating in the Hour of Code hosted by code.org. This year code.org had two new activities. One was Star Wars and the other was Minecraft. I had every student "join my class" and complete an hour of coding during class. I then assigned the rest of the activity as homework for the week. Some students went even further and completed a coding course on Khan Academy. Here is the holiday card that Justin created on Khan Academy and the code that he used to create it with. Hour of Code shows student, and parents, that writing code is not some mystical process but rather something that they can and a skill that can lead to a variety of career possibilities.
